AGE DOES NOT ALWAYS EQUALS COMPETENCE

“I thought, age should speak, advanced years should teach wisdom.
But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty that gives him understanding.
It is not the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right”
  Job 32:7-9 (NIV)

In this type of society we operate here, age is always put before ability or skill. In the real sense, it does not always have to do with how old you are…. it is important that the best man do the job: it should not always be about how many professional qualifications obtained or how long they have been on a job, when someone can excellently execute a task, encouragement and challenges should be placed before such a person. An example is about David in the Bible; if age was so much a factor, David would not have been anointed king by Samuel….God would not have chosen him. He was the youngest. (1 Sam16:1-13)
Excellence does not thrive where there is stagnation, mediocrity….. a place where people are not encouraged to use their initiative is not healthy. We may be tempted to give in to age considering how this environment, yet you must be wise enough to look at the end result. Let the best man get the job done; swallow your prejudice for excellence to thrive.
When a leader decides or allows himself to be surrounded with outdated, archaic, unproductive people, he will never rise above their level of reasoning. This is why Nigeria will always be battling with productivity and excellence because we so much place emphasis on age even when it is counter productive. Let the best man effectively do the job…that should be the most important thing. The vibrant middle class is gradually dwindling because the society does not groom people for the type of mindset that thrives in excellence. We find ourselves sometimes under the type of leadership that makes you so angry because of how unbelievably incompetent the leadership is, people who cannot run a simple cycle, how much more the seat of power? A lot of people in position of authority who think they know everything; they never give room for other people’s opinion to count….. At the end of the day, the whole system is plagued with unyielding standards of stagnancy and unproductivity.

The world will always marginalize the ignorant; we cannot continue in fossilized backwardness. We must be able to always be logical rather than emotional in getting things done.
