Nigerian former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), has described
members of the Boko Haram sect as misguided elements, saying the
insurgence of the group is not insurmountable.
He spoke
with journalists after a special prayer session held to mark his 70th
birthday in Minna on Wednesday, the former military leader argued that
poverty was not the cause of the various socio-political crises rocking
the country.
In his own words:
“As Nigerians, we need to keep trying to find solution to the problems facing the country.
“The
whole world is full of problems and challenges. It is happening all
over the world and not only Nigeria. I know that here we will all say we
have Boko Haram, we have kidnappers and what have you, yes we do have
them but we should not fold our hands and throw our hands into the air
and let things go.
“We
should keep trying and praying that those misguided elements will give
peace a chance. Nigeria is not the only country ridden with poverty and
economic problems; I believe that it is not a tool for what is happening
in the country”
Sir, you have spoken and we have heard, just hope our dear President is also listening...Thank you!
